Famed artist Kenny Scharf brings his animated vision to Cartoon Network with a new half-hour special The Groovenians, which will premiere on Sunday, November 24 at 10:30 p.m. (ET, PT) during Adult Swim, Cartoon Network's block of animation aimed at adults. The Groovenians uses colorful CGI animation to tell the story of two misfits from a bland planet who make their escape to the bohemian utopia of Groovenia.

From the mind of Pop-Surrealist Kenny Scharf comes a tale of free-spirited artists on a personal crusade to find artistic nirvana and pursue the cause of love, fun and art. Jet and Glindy feel trapped on their boring planet. Their parents want them to settle down and lead "normal" lives with kids and a finely manicured lawn. But Jet and Glindy want more. They hear about an exotic planet called Groovenia, which is filled with wild inhabitants from all over the universe creating art and having fun. Jet and Glindy escape to this utopia, but once they get there our young heroes find that the place to be is not for free.

The Groovenians sports an all-start cast of voice talent, including Drena DeNiro, Paul Reubens, Dennis Hopper, Ann Magnuson, RuPaul, Debi Mazar and Vincent Gallo. The theme song was written and performed by the B-52s.

Scharf came to fame in the 1980s with art inspired by pop culture, particularly cartoons like The Jetsons and The Flintstones. He is featured in the Whitney Museum of American Art's permanent collection. Scharf's art always conveys a sense of fun even while confronting such significant issues as global deforestation. A prolific creator, Scharf works in a variety of media, from oil paint on canvas to sculpture and now television. His work incorporates vivid colors, cartoon characters, graffiti-inspired imagery, vintage advertisements and more for a truly unique vision.
