Questions & Answers

What other advantage does Compact Laminate offer?

Wilsonart® Compact Laminate exhibit high resistance to impact and stress cracking due to their thickness.

Why is it advantageous for a Compact Laminate to be sanded on the back side?

Product Types 117 or 514 are both sanded on the back side. This allows the laminate to be fabricated over a frame instead of a substrate, and required no cross banding. It is often used as a component of tabletops, interior doors, or bonded to a structural member of a subway car interior.

What about durability?

The durability and impact resistance of Wilsonart® Compact Laminate exceeds that of comparably thick panels composed of HPDL applied to two sides of medium density fiberboard.

Where are the double-faced Compact Laminates used?

Compact Laminates are used in applications such as toilet and dressing room partitions, instrumentation panels, workbenches, shelving, cabinetry and counter or tabletops.

Is it necessary to bond to a substrate when using Compact Laminate?

Compact Laminates are produced in various thicknesses adequate to preclude the use of a substrate. They are useful where flat, freestanding panels are needed for decorative and/or functional purposes.

What is Wilsonart® Compact Laminate?

Compact Laminate is composed of melamine decorative papers superimposed over Kraft phenolic core sheets to achieve the desired thickness. Decorative surface papers may be used on both sides of the panel, or one side may be sanded for bonding to a suitable frame.

Why is Digital Print Laminate more expensive than conventional laminate?

Digital Print Laminate is essentially a one-of-a-kind, hand-made product. Because of the additional time and processing required to produce each sheet, the product is more costly to make. Still, in many cases, it is a less expensive alternative to other customized or hand-rendered processes that are available.

How long does it take to produce a sheet of Custom Laminate?

The Digital Print (WxY) Laminate process incorporates several steps, including design approval and manufacturing. Normally, it takes 14 days from the receipt of an approved layout and sample for laminate to ship from our manufacturing plant.
